Flight

Launch from Cape Canaveral (KSC); landing on Cape Canaveral (KSC). A first launch attempt on August 09, 2001 was scrubbed due to bad weather at the KSC in Florida. Mission ISS-11-7A.1.

The main purpose of STS-105 was the rotation of the International Space Station crew and the delivery of supplies utilizing the Italian-built Multi-Purpose Logistics Module (MPLM) Leonardo on its second flight. Aboard Leonardo were six Resupply Stowage Racks, four Resupply Stowage Platforms, and two new scientific experiment racks for the station's U.S. laboratory Destiny. Another payload onboard is the Materials International Space Station Experiments (MISSE).

Following a two day solo flight the Discovery docked with the ISS on 12.08.2001. Culbertson, Dezhurov and Tyurin became as "Expedition-3" the new resident crew of the ISS. The Expedition 2 with Voss, Helms and Usachyov returned to Earth with STS-105.

First EVA by Barry and Forrester on 16.08.2001 (6h 16m) to attach an ammonia servicing unit and two science experiment packages.

Second EVA by Barry and Forrester on 18.08.2001 (5h 29m) to lay backup cables for future assembly.

The landing was delayed one orbit due to rain showers in Florida.

Note

Culbertson, Dezhurov and Tyurin landed on 17.12.2001, 17:55 UTC with STS-108-spacecraft.
